Before establishing himself as the production powerhouse behind Rhymesayers artists like Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Dynospectrum and more, Ant first built his skills in the ’80s as a DJ. In 1998, he leaned heavily on these DJ skills to release his debut mixtape on Rhymesayers, Melodies & Memories, a megamix style mixtape that focused on some of his favorite music from 1979-1985. Then in 2005, he continued the story with part two, Melodies & Memories: 85-89, continuing to push the limits of what is possible with a 4-track, a room full of records, years of practice, a vivid imagination, and a whole lot of patience.
This 60 minute mix was recorded using the 4-track, turntables, an ASR-10, an Effects Processor and the often-forgotten Gemini Flash Former, and inspired by the sounds of Grandmixer DST, Latin Rascals, N.Y. Scratch Masters, Double Dee and Steinski.
Cassette packaging includes smoke tinted cassette cartridge with single color imprint and 8-panel full color printed j-card housed in plastic shell.
